Lesson 8 - die Tiere
Animals are always a popular topic, that students want to know more about. For lesson 8, we will be covering names of animals in German, as well as the sounds animals make. Culturally animals sounds are different from what they are in other languages.
The grammar topic for the lesson focuses on modal verbs in Präteritum. For simplicity, most Germans use the Präteritum for both speaking and writing - to illiminate the use of 3 verbs in a sentence. Modal verbs act like mixed verbs. This builds on lesson 7, so be sure that you feel that you have mastered the content before continuing to lesson 8.
Objectives:
1. Students will connect animal sounds to different animals.
2. Students will create sentences using modal verbs in the Präteritum.
3. Students will create a children´s story book, teaching children about animals.

Activity 1 - die Tiere
When children learn their native language, their parents focus on teaching them about animals and their sounds. There is a plethora of books for children that focus on this topic. We will take this lesson to cover this fun topic and introduce animal names and sounds.
